BMT started in 2005 when founder Sam Blake rode his bike to visit students in their homes to give guitar lessons. Back then it was a paper pocket book map, CDs and books, all bookings done in a paper diary…
Fast forward to today and we now run a team of wonderful teachers and admin staff to spread the joy of making kids, teens and adults feel awesome through playing music.
Our teaching philosophy is all about giving students a great lesson experience so they have fun, build confidence and form identity through music.
Teachers use a framework to teach core knowledge, often through a gamified teaching method. We have music programmes written for each instrument, work towards exams, as well as teaching a tailored programme around the student’s musical tastes and goals.
All students are given access to their own exclusive online portal, where all their lesson notes, videos and sheet music are stored for access anywhere, anytime. This portal also manages all of your billing, scheduling and email/phone support – all in one easy place!
Our teachers are qualified at university/college level and have passed grade 8 at their first instrument. They are DBS cleared and trained to teach to the BMT Standard. We are also a GSW Music Hub organisation.

My daughter Evie started with zoom sessions with Jake, and even online came on leaps and bounds. Jakes passion for music and teaching young people was no doubt the main reason Evie enjoyed it so much. She has now started with face to face lessons and comes out absolutely beaming. Evie has been through a lot of trauma in her life, and because of that Sam takes the time to touch base with me to check how they can ensure that Evie gets the most out of music and can use it to help her through some tough times. I really couldn’t ask for more.

My son and his friends did 3 summer holiday workshops with BMT this summer and it exceeded my expectations. They loved learning together and making their own music with Jake the guitar teacher. They were so excited about creating music that they’ve formed a band and now are practising together. I’d highly recommend it for all abilities too as they were a mix of more experienced guitarists and beginners.

My 8yo son has never had the confidence to do any after school clubs/ sports clubs etc, and when we arrived at BMT for a trial lesson he got very overwhelmed and anxious. We were about to turn around and walk away but Sam had a chat with him and managed to persuade him to give it a go. He is now going every week – very happily- something i didn’t think I would ever see!

Sam has been teaching my son guitar for the past couple of months and it’s amazing to see the growth so far. This is a huge testament to Sam’s tutoring. Sam clearly understands how to teach 1 to 1 and in groups and his encouragement and the dynamic of the tutoring really suits my son. The gamified programme and the use of the belt system (like karate etc.) really gives something for the students to aim for, keeping the learning fun, but also learning the techniques of playing guitar. I highly recommend Sam and BMT school of music
